Where are you from? Born in Bataan (location of the Death March); moved to Manila when I was 3.

Occupation and Company: Sr. Immigration Specialist for Halliburton Energy Services. I make sure our company is in compliance with U.S. immigration laws.

Describe you in five words: Explorer, organized, vocal, compassionate, and determined

How did you get involved with FYP? I started in 2010 as a volunteer for FYP’s PATAK series (mentorship program for high school students).

What is one of your favorite things about FYP? Food is always involved no matter what we do. Yeah!

Most FYP members don’t know that I have 11 ear piercings.

What has been one of your proudest moments so far? I don’t know about “proudest,” but a goal of mine I most recently accomplished was to visit all 7 continents. Check!

If you could take a trip to somewhere in the Philippines, where would you go? It would be to the Banaue Rice Terraces.

My favorite Filipino food is tinola.

My favorite restaurant in Houston is Beck’s Prime.

Is there anything else that you want to share with your fellow members? Let’s use our resources and talents to help the less fortunate in the Philippines.

Congratulations to Elaine Ngitit, RN/BSN/CCRN of Methodist Willowbrook Hospital, for being awarded FYP’s Nurses Week 2013 Gift of Appreciation. She was chosen to receive this FYP gift by the Board of the Philippine Nurses Association of Metropolitan Houston (“PNAMH”) for her exemplary work as a nurse for 15 years and her recent passing of the Critical Care Certification. PNAMH is a local chapter of the Philippine Nurses Association of America. This professional organization strives to promote unity among Filipino-American nurses in Metropolitan Houston and provide a forum to address issues affecting the nursing practice. THE FILIPINO YOUNG PROFESSIONALS OF HOUSTON

2013 Academic Scholarship Application Guidelines

The Filipino Young Professionals of Houston (FYP) is looking to award scholarships to three worthy candidates that best represent our mission of fostering unity, culture, friendship, networking, and philanthropy within our community.

To be eligible, an applicant must be:

1. A Spring 2013 graduate of a Houston area high school,
2. Applying OR has applied for Fall 2013 admission to an institute of higher learning,
3. And of Filipino descent and/or an active member of a Filipino student organization.

Five applicants will be chosen and will be encouraged to participate in our Youth Day Event on July 27, 2013 starting at 4 pm.  At the end of this event, scholarship recipients will be announced.   The top three applicants will be awarded in the amounts of $500, $300, and $200 to be spent on living and/or academic expenses in their first semester of enrollment.

Scholarship applicants are advised to use these application guidelines as a reference and checklist to ensure that all necessary information is provided with the original application package. The FYP Scholarship Committee may contact applicants if additional information is required, but the FYP Scholarship Committee reserves the right to disqualify application packages from consideration if key information is not included or if guidelines are not followed. The FYP Scholarship Committee reserves the right to subdivide the scholarship or increase the number of scholarships in its sole discretion.
