✨Calling all volunteers!✨

Are you ready to be part of something big? The Filipino Young Professionals of Houston is gearing up to organize the largest Filipino festival in the south, and we need your help! Join our Festival Planning Committee and play a crucial role in making this event a memorable success!

Here's what we're looking for:

✅ Monthly General Planning Meetings (virtual/in-person options) through October and Ad hoc committee meetings

✅ Access to Slack for internal communication and Gmail for external

✅ Flexible and creative attitude

✅ Passion for volunteer work

Here are the exciting committees you can be part of:

1️⃣ Marketing Committee: Spread the word and attract attendees and sponsors through advertising, social media, and more!

2️⃣ On Stage Program Committee: Curate an amazing lineup of performers and entertainment acts.

3️⃣ Vendor Committee: Coordinate food vendors and merchandise/craft vendors to ensure a diverse range of options. *IMMEDIATE NEED*

4️⃣ Volunteer Coordination Committee: Recruit, train, and manage volunteers for various festival tasks.

5️⃣ Sponsorship Committee: Secure sponsorships and in-kind donations to support the festival financially.

6️⃣ Logistics / Security Committee: Handle transportation, parking, and other logistical aspects of the event. Ensure the safety of attendees by coordinating security and medical services.

7️⃣ Community Partners Committee: Engages with the local 501(c)3 non-profit organizations to foster collaboration and support.

8️⃣ Venue and Stage Design Committee: Develop a cohesive theme and aesthetic for the festival, and coordinate decorations and signage throughout the venue to reflect this theme. Collaborate with On Stage Program Committee to design the main stage setup.

9️⃣ Children’s Pavilion: Organize fun and creative activities for our young attendees!

Mentorship Application (Mentees ONLY) (03/09/2026)

The Filipino Young Professionals of Houston is excited to bring back our Mentorship Program for college students.

By joining our program, mentees have the opportunity to connect with a working professional in their field of interest and a scholarship resource kit.

The program is set to start in July and end in September.

To be eligible, interested mentees must:

Be at least 18 years old
Have availability for at least 3 hours per month between July to September
Be attending or preparing to attend a higher education institute in any academic program

FYP Houston understands the significance of scholastic achievement in attaining success within an increasingly specialized job market. However, we also emphasize the value of cultivating cross-cultural relationships, as they contribute to the development of mutually beneficial social and professional connections.

At FYP, we acknowledge that cross-cultural exchange and diversity inclusion foster an environment that welcomes fresh ideas, which serve as the foundation for innovation. This commitment ensures that the professional market in Houston remains vibrant and forward-thinking, positioning it as one of the most dynamic in the United States. Nevertheless, innovation in any field requires individuals with new perspectives and ideas, who must be guided towards the appropriate career paths that ignite their passion.

With this in mind, FYP is dedicated to assisting aspiring young professionals in finding their true calling. We achieve this by providing a diverse network of seasoned professionals who can offer guidance and support. After all, who better to help a newcomer find their path than someone who has already walked that very same journey?

In pursuit of our mission, FYP Houston is thrilled to announce the opening of our scholarship application, offering aspiring young professionals the opportunity to further their education and pursue their dreams. Every year, we offer three scholarships amounting to $2000 each, to students who exhibit excellence, dedication, and service. Applications typically open in the summer, and are awarded in October of that awarding year.

DAY 1 - Kulintang Workshop - Parangal Dance Company x FYPCA.HTX (05/02/2026)

The FYP Cultural Ambassadors are proud to host Music Directors Matthew Espina Harris and Major Julian of Parangal Dance Company for a beginner-friendly introduction to Kulintang music rooted in Maguindanaon and Tausug gong traditions. This hands-on workshop will cover foundational melodies and rhythms used in folk dance, while offering space to connect with the cultural traditions of Mindanao and the Sulu Archipelago.

Five instruments complete a Maguindanaon kulintang ensemble. The melodic instrument at the center of an ensemble is called the Kulintang. The accompanying instruments are the Agung, Babendil, Dabakan, and Gandingan.

This is a free event with a suggested donation of $10, and is open to anyone interested. No music or dance experience necessary. Please RSVP as space is limited!

This event is funded in part by the City of Houston throughHouston Arts Alliance.

Major Julian

Major Julian serves as Parangal’s Director of Technology and Co-Music Director, a dual role that mirrors his passion for precision and cultural storytelling. By day, he is a Business Systems Support Analyst in the pharmaceutical industry; by night, he applies that technical expertise to the preservation of Philippine heritage. Since joining the ensemble, Major has been a cornerstone of the company’s sustainability, notably securing its 501(c)(3) nonprofit status in 2013 and establishing its digital home at Parangal.org.

Matt Espinosa

Matthew Espina Harris is a musician and cultural researcher based in Oakland. He got his start in Philippine dance and music through Pilipino Culture Night at UC Davis, where he fell in love with Kulintang and Rondalla. While attending university, Matthew established one of the only student-run, traditionally based Kulintang ensembles in the United States.In 2022, Matthew formally joined the artistic team of Parangal Dance Company, and now works as Co-Director of Music to strengthen the company’s gong and percussion repertoire.

ABOUT PARANGAL DANCE COMPANY:

Parangal Aspires to Inspire! They are a non-profit, Filipino Folk Dance & Music Company based in the unceded Ramaytush Ohlone Territory also known San Francisco in California, USA.

Parangal’s mission is to give tribute to Philippine heritage by preserving and promoting ethnic attire, music, and dance through research, workshops, and performances. They aim to serve as a bridge, inspiring and connecting Filipinos in diaspora to their roots to give them a sense of pride and identity, while educating diverse communities to foster awareness and appreciation of Philippine culture.
