FYP Cultural Ambassadors and Parangal Dance Company presents
Cultural Connections: A Weekend of Identity and Inspiration
DAY 1: Pangalay Pangantin - Bride & Groom Dance Workshop with Jet Tagle
Join us for a special workshop led by Parangal dance director Jet Tagle, where you'll discover the grace and beauty of Pangalay ("Gift offering" or "temple of dance" in Sanskrit), the traditional ethnic dance of the Tausūg people of the Philippines and Malaysia. The dance is characterized by elegant hand and wrist movements that resemble the flowing movement of ocean waves, and is often enhanced by long, metal fingernails worn by the dancers.
This workshop will focus on the Pangalay Pangantin, a dance inspired by the ceremonial traditions of the Tausug bride and groom as they perform graceful movements and beseech support from their wedding entourage.
*If you are also interested in Day 2, please RSVP here as well. Please note Day 1 and Day 2 will be held at different times and locations.*
This event is funded in part by the City of Houston through Houston Arts Alliance.
